In these unprecedented times due to the global pandemic, the 2020 Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition took place via Zoom videoconferences for the five regional competitions on October 23 and 30, 2020 and the national competition on November 13, 2020.  The two national finalist teams argued before an esteemed panel of nine judges comprised of Judge Denny Chin (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit), Chief Judge Sri Srinivasan (U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit), Judge Patrick Bumatay (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit), Associate Justice Carla Wong McMillian (Supreme Court of Georgia), Judge Jennifer Choe-Groves (U.S. Court of International Trade), Judge Karen Gren Scholer (U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas), Colonel Fansu Ku (U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps), Captain Stephen Reyes (U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps), and Administrative Law Judge Gwenlynn D’Souza (D.C. Office of Employment Services).

2019 Results

In 2019, the Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition hosted a field of 36 teams from 24 law schools across the country.  A total of 14 teams advanced from one of the four Regional Competitions to the National Competition, which was held in conjunction with the NAPABA Convention. The final round of the National Competition was held at the Texas Supreme Court, and was presided over by Judge Denny Chin (Second Circuit Court of Appeals), Judge Jennifer Choe-Groves (U.S. Court of International Trade), Judge Karen Gren Scholer (U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Texas), Justice Mary Yu (Washington Supreme Court), Colonel Kay Wakatake (Deputy Judge Advocate Colonel of the U.S. Army), and Justice Lynn Nakamoto (Oregon Supreme Court).
